Phil, telemark legend

A key figure in modern telemark skiing, Phil has made his mark on the history of the sport like few athletes before him. The first French world champion and the first winner of the World Cup, he has one of the most impressive track records ever recorded in telemark skiing. His titles, victories and longevity at the highest level make him a true legend, whose influence on French telemark skiing will remain lasting.

Born in Céret but raised in Méribel, Phil discovered the mountains at an early age. Before becoming a telemark skier, he practised alpine skiing at the Méribel Club and played ice hockey for several years. At the age of 15, under the guidance of his coach Denis Gacon, he switched to telemark skiing and immediately became passionate about this demanding and creative technique.

Curious and versatile, Phil is an all-round sportsman: mountain biking, roller skiing, paragliding, motorcycling... he takes part in a wide range of activities to enrich his training. This versatility is reflected in his telemark skiing: between slalom, freeride and touring, he feels at ease everywhere and adapts his style to the conditions.

Throughout his career, Phil has seen equipment evolve. From the first leather/plastic boots to 7tm bindings, then among the very first to race in NTN standard, he has often been a pioneer, always seeking greater precision and performance. Even today, he still skis on technical equipment.

Alongside his sporting career, Phil teaches skiing at the ESF in Méribel and relies on his sponsors to finance his season. Having travelled to the world's most beautiful resorts thanks to competition, he remains deeply attached to Méribel, his favourite playground — even if he still dreams of one day skiing in Alaska or in the powder snow of Japan.

Phil is a passionate telemark ambassador.

Phil uses the L5S1 77 in 178cm for their versatility and playfulness, whether on small or large turns on the piste. Their strong point: excellent grip at high speed, even on hard snow, for guaranteed skiing pleasure. He uses 22 Designs Bandit bindings, which offer greater precision and support. Their advantage: a stiff and progressive flex that remains constant from the beginning to the end of the turn.
